The weather turned on a dime. Mid May was mild. Early June HOT. Several benefits though, swam in the Med yesterday for the first time here. Went down in late afternoon/early evening. No one would say that the pebble beach in Nice is terrific, but it certainly is convenient. Water temp is in the 70s and getting warmer by the day.
Had a housing hiccup. Found this other apartment that checked two boxes that are unchecked where we are. Specifically it had a large deck and second toilet. So we rented it June first. After getting the remaining furniture removed and cleaning we were able to spend some time and plot out what exactly we were getting into. After spending some time we gradually realized that the minuses outweighed the plusses. It was a bit smaller, the ceiling was about 3 feet lower, the bedrooms much smaller, and the deck basically unusable due to street/traffic noise. So we have canceled the lease. In France, you have 30 days to back out of a lease so we hope we’ll get the security deposit back by the end of the month.
Nothing ventured, nothing gained. C’est la vie. Say what you will but we do this more than we should. It’s a symptom of something I won’t admit to…
Back at the first apartment, we have discovered a squatter. This morning, while checking on the ledge, Barbara discovered a new collection of twigs in the shape of a circle. This afternoon we saw this:
Yup, it’s an egg. So the pigeons who have been casing the joint have decided that our ledge would make a fine place for a nursery. According to Google, we might have a chick in 17-19 days or June 30-July 1. So I’ll keep all my subscribers posted!
How exciting. I’ve lived in and out of cities for my entire life and have never seen a baby pigeon.
There is a “big” protest on the Prom tomorrow. We’ll miss it though as we are heading to Scotland for a few days to get out of the heat. We’ll be with you in spirit.
